Stewart Farms CBD Bath Bomb Review

October 17, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Soak in the Senses with Stewart Farms

Bath Time, Reimagined.

Bubbles. Butter. Botanicals.

Stewart Farms has managed to take all three and blend them into something beautifully simple yet quietly revolutionary: cannabis-infused bath bombs and soaks that transform your tub into a little laboratory of calm.

Whether you are looking to melt away sore muscles, nourish your skin, or simply indulge your inner hedonist, Stewart Farms might just be the ticket to the most luxurious 45 minutes of your week.

The Farm Meets the Bath

Before you even drop one of these fizzing spheres into the water, it is worth knowing the philosophy behind them. Stewart Farms operates out of New Brunswick, proudly Canadian and proudly sustainable. They grow, craft, and package with a mission that goes far beyond aesthetics. It is about wellness rooted in nature.

Each bath bomb (and their salt soak cousin) is free of synthetic fragrances, powered instead by essential oils, plant butters, and of course, cannabinoids. The result is not a glittery, artificial spectacle. It is something more grounded. More human.

When you bathe with Stewart Farms, you are not just soaking your skin. You are letting your body breathe again.

The Collection: A Dip into Serenity

🌲 Evergreen Forest CBD Bath Bomb

If you have ever wished you could bottle the smell of the woods after rainfall, this is it.

The Evergreen Forest CBD Bath Bomb is a love letter to Canada’s wild landscape, infused with fir needle, copaiba, and a generous dose of 100 mg CBD. As soon as it hits the water, it fizzes softly, tinting your bath a muted green and wrapping you in an aromatic hug that feels equal parts invigorating and restorative.

After half an hour, your skin feels supple, your muscles lose their tension, and your mind clears like mist lifting off pine needles.

It is not just a bath bomb. It is a breath of forest air in your bathroom.

💜 Rebound Triple Pack – Lavender Fields, Evergreen Forest, and More

For those of us who like a bit of variety, Stewart Farms offers their Rebound CBD Bath Bomb Triple Pack, a three-course sensory feast.

Each bomb shares the same thoughtful formula: natural butters, essential oils, and a CBD-forward cannabinoid blend. But each scent tells a different story.

  • Lavender Fields is calm and dreamy, a lullaby in fizzy form.
  • Evergreen Forest, as mentioned, is grounding and green.
  • Citrus Grove (depending on your pack) is zesty and bright, a sunrise in the tub.

It is the perfect way to tailor your soak to your mood. Stressed? Lavender. Sore? Evergreen. Sunday morning self-care? Citrus Grove.

By the time you have used all three, you will feel like you have traveled through every corner of nature without leaving your house.

🌸 Blue Dream, Chocolate Hashberry, and Bubba Kush Bath Bombs

Now here is where things get interesting.

These are the strain-inspired bath bombs, each infused with a balanced 50 mg of THC and 50 mg of CBD. Do not worry, you are not about to blast off to another dimension. These are topical products; their power lies in relaxation, not intoxication.

Each strain-inspired bomb carries the essence of its namesake.

  • Blue Dream is breezy and uplifting, with lemongrass and lavender tones.
  • Chocolate Hashberry smells like dessert at a spa, warm, rich, and indulgent.
  • Bubba Kush brings the earthy calm of a quiet cabin retreat.

They fizz slower and softer, like time itself is taking a breath. After a soak, your skin feels nurtured, your muscles lazy, and your spirit grounded. The THC-CBD balance adds a depth that feels almost meditative.

These bombs are not for the showy bathers. They are for the ones who like their peace deep and lingering.

🫐 Blueberry Sunset CBD Salt Soak

Not every day calls for fireworks in the tub. Sometimes, you just want a long, quiet exhale.

That is where the Blueberry Sunset CBD Salt Soak comes in. It is 125 grams of antioxidant-rich, skin-loving bliss, a mixture of blueberry extract, white grapefruit, frankincense, chamomile, and cedarwood.

It does not fizz; it blooms. Dissolving gently and evenly, it turns the water silky and fragrant without leaving your tub slick. It is subtle, but in the same way a good cup of tea is subtle, delicate, soothing, and absolutely essential to the ritual of unwinding.

It is also the most skin-nourishing product of the bunch. After a 40-minute soak, your skin glows as if it has been quietly thanking you.

The Science Behind the Soak

Let us get practical for a moment.

Cannabis bath products do not get you high, at least not in the way smoking or edibles do. The THC and CBD molecules are too large to pass through the skin into the bloodstream in meaningful amounts. Instead, they work locally, engaging with cannabinoid receptors near the skin’s surface.

What does that mean in real life? Relief from tension, inflammation, and dryness, along with a noticeable shift toward calm.

Add to that the blend of mango butter, shea butter, and essential oils, and you are essentially giving your skin a nutrient-packed spa treatment. Stewart Farms earns bonus points for clean ingredients and eco-conscious production, proof that luxury does not have to mean wasteful.

The Feel, the Mood, the Magic

After trying all four, here is the through-line: balance.

Each product seems designed not just to smell good or soften skin, but to restore equilibrium. It is mindfulness in a bath bomb.

The Evergreen bomb clears your head. Lavender Fields lulls you to stillness. Blue Dream makes you feel weightless. And the Blueberry soak feels like washing the day right off your soul.

You step out of the tub feeling not just clean, but centered.

The Verdict

Are Stewart Farms bath bombs a little pricier than your average drugstore find? Yes.
Are they worth it? Absolutely.

You are not buying a product. You are buying a pause. A moment in your day when the world slows down and you remember what it feels like to exist comfortably in your own skin.

If you are looking to dip your toes into cannabis wellness without the smoke or the stigma, this is the gentlest and most fragrant way to start.

Each product tells a story, and that story ends the same way: with you, calm and content, wrapped in a towel and a smile.

Step Into Your Own Wonderland

At Jane’s Cannabis, we have always believed cannabis is not just about consumption. It is about experience.

Stewart Farms bath bombs invite you to make that experience part of your self-care ritual. They remind us that cannabis does not only belong on the shelf or in a joint. It can belong in the stillness of your bathroom, the scent of cedar, and the sound of water fizzing softly as you let the day drift away.

So run the tap. Drop the bomb. Let the forest, the lavender, and the blueberry sunset carry you somewhere softer.

Curiosity led you here. Comfort will keep you coming back.

Bud Lafleur Strawberry Bubbles Review

July 1, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Pop the Top and Let the Good Times Bubble

Ever crack open a jar and immediately feel like you just walked into a candy shop that moonlights as a citrus grove? That’s Strawberry Bubbles by Bud Lafleur for you — a fruity, fizzy hybrid that feels like summer vacation in bud form. With genetics tracing back to Mimosa and Strawberry Guava, this sativa-leaning hybrid isn’t just about good vibes — it’s about floating on a pink cloud of joy while your brain throws a mini dance party.
Let’s dive in and find out why this bubblegum dream is buzzing on the shelves.

What Makes It Special?

Strawberry Bubbles doesn’t play small. Grown indoors in Pointe-Claire, Quebec by the terp-lovers at Bud Lafleur (Cielo Verde Quebec Inc.), this cultivar is hand-harvested, whole plant hang-dried, hand-trimmed, and slow-cured for at least 14 days. That’s the kind of care that tells you someone’s grandma would be proud of this kind of craftsmanship.

Strawberry Bubbles straddles the line between uplifting and mellow, making it a hybrid for people who want to ride the high without crashing the party too early.

Aromatic and Visual Profile

Let’s start with the eye candy: this flower has dense, chunky buds that sparkle like they’ve been dipped in sugar. The dark green nugs are wrapped in sticky trichomes, and if you look closely, you’ll spot purple hues peeking through like little bruises of greatness.

As for the aroma? Think strawberry bubble gum left on the dashboard of a lemon-scented sports car — warm, sweet, and citrusy with just a touch of funk. There’s also a soft hay note on the back end, like a whiff of summer fields that grounds the sweetness.
Terpene-wise, it’s got the holy trinity for mood elevation:

● Limonene (bright, citrusy, mood-boosting)

● Myrcene (herbal and calming)

● Caryophyllene (a peppery kicker that brings it all together)

Effects:

The magic of Strawberry Bubbles is how gently it wraps around you. Don’t expect a slingshot to the moon right away. Instead, it builds slowly, sneaking up on your mood like your favorite feel-good playlist. The first thing you’ll notice is a soft, happy euphoria — a “huh, I feel great” kind of vibe that bubbles up and doesn’t stop.

Over the first 15 to 30 minutes, the effects dial up, turning light-hearted giddiness into full-blown imaginative bliss. You might find yourself philosophizing about cloud shapes or finally organizing your sock drawer — with passion.

Outdoors? Even better. This strain amplifies sunlight. Everything just looks and feels nicer. Ideal for festivals, patios, or just catching the sunset with friends.
That said, don’t let the initial sativa lean fool you — after the cerebral lift-off, there’s a soothing, almost sedative tail end. If you’re not careful, the “bubbly” vibe turns into a lazy river float where you’re too relaxed to find your phone (or care).

How Much Does It Cost?

Available at Jane’s Cannabis Shop for $32.85 for 3.5g, Strawberry Bubbles hits that sweet spot of top-tier quality without draining your wallet. For a strain boasting 30%+ THC and a solid terp profile, this is a steal — especially if you’re looking for something with that oomph.

Summary:

Strawberry Bubbles by Bud Lafleur is a balanced hybrid that lives up to its whimsical name. It brings the cerebral buzz of a good sativa with the body-soothing hug of an indica, all wrapped in a strawberry-candy scent with hints of citrus and funk.

Whether you’re looking to kickstart a social evening, enhance a sunny hike, or just float away in your own thoughts, this one’s a versatile crowd-pleaser. You don’t need to be a baller to enjoy the finer bubbles in life.

Orchid CBD Rntz Live Resin Vape Review

June 17, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Let’s face it—some vapes hit like they’ve got something to prove. You’re just trying to chill, and they come at you with a head-thumping intensity and flavours that feel like someone spilled perfume into a bong. Not today, friends. Orchid CBD’s CBD Rntz Live Resin 510 vape is here to vibe, not vibe-check.

Whether you’re a seasoned toker or just dipping your toes into the terpene pool, this cart delivers a flower-like experience with a chill personality and pain-relieving power. Let’s get into the delicious details.

What Makes It Special?

Here’s the golden ticket: this isn’t your average distillate cart. Orchid CBD’s Rntz vape is packed with live resin—a fresh-frozen extraction method that keeps all those tasty cannabinoids and terps intact.

What really stands out is the balanced blend of 50–70% THC and 30–40% CBD. It’s like getting the best of both worlds: the mellow euphoria of THC, grounded by the soothing, inflammation-fighting hug of CBD. This synergy means you feel good without feeling gone.

Even better, the high mirrors the laid-back, full-bodied feeling you’d get from smoking flower. That’s right—no buzzy, synthetic nonsense here. Just smooth sailing.

Aromatic and Visual Profile

No candy-store overkill or burnt popcorn here. The flavour is gentle and clean, with just enough terpene lift to make your taste buds nod in approval. If you’re familiar with the fruity/earthy lineage of Rntz, you’ll catch its whispers in every puff—subtle, not showy.

The vapor is silky on the inhale and satisfying on the exhale. No throat burn. No coughing fits. No regrets. Just a classy cloud experience from a cartridge that clearly knows what it’s doing.

Bonus: the hardware itself is slick, with a ceramic tip that delivers both style and function. Think of it as the Cadillac of carts—luxurious, reliable, and built for comfort.

Effects

Let’s talk about what really matters: how it makes you feel.

This vape settles into your system with the grace of a cat curling up on your lap. It’s relaxing without sedating, offering a clear-headed calm that still lets you get things done.

Need to run errands, write a novel, or finally clean the fridge? You’re good. The mild energy boost keeps you moving, while the chill vibes keep your inner drama queen in check.

Perfect for:

  • Pain relief without the fog
  • Anxiety-free calm
  • Light mood lift
  • Staying functional and focused

Oh, and did I mention there’s no racy edge or crash? You get to enjoy the buzz and the afterglow.

Summary

If you’re after a vape that behaves more like your favourite flower joint—relaxing, clean, smooth, and just energized enough—Orchid CBD’s CBD Rntz Live Resin 510 vape is an easy win. It’s thoughtful in its design, elegant in its effect, and a joy to use.

No headaches. No burnout. No regretful existential spirals. Just good vibes, great flavour, and pain relief that feels like a warm bath in cloud form.

Highly recommend for both recreational users looking for a reliable, high-functioning vape that won’t knock you sideways.

High Society by BLK MKT Review

June 6, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Introduction

Looking for a strain that’s as comfortable at a cocktail party as it is on the couch? Say hello to High Society by BLK MKT—a luxury hybrid with big personality and even bigger terpene swagger. We cracked open a jar of this premium flower to see if it lives up to the hype. Spoiler alert: It absolutely does.

In this quick review, we’ll cover what makes it special, how it looks and smells, the effects, and whether it’s worth the price tag. Light one up and read on!

What Makes It Special?

High Society is that perfect intersection of class and kickback. Bred from Jet Fuel Gelato x Biscotti, this strain is a powerhouse hybrid that walks the line between high-octane energy and cozy relaxation.

Cultivated to perfection and offered in a sleek 7-gram jar, it’s designed for the discerning consumer who wants something strong, smooth, and stylish. Whether you’re starting the night or winding it down, High Society shows up with the range and sophistication to keep pace.

Aromatic and Visual Profile

Open the jar and—boom—gas city. That pungent Jet Fuel backbone hits immediately, softened just enough by subtle sweet citrus and a whisper of Biscotti’s dessert-like creaminess. A faint woody exhale rounds out the bouquet, adding complexity without overpowering the senses.

Visually, it’s a feast for the eyes: dense, resin-rich nugs shimmering with trichomes. Expect deep emerald hues accented with rich amber pistils. It’s the kind of flower that earns a second look—and maybe a couple of photos before you light it.

Effects

From the very first puff, you’ll notice that signature behind-the-eyes sizzle—an energetic, upbeat sensation that puts a little spring in your step. It’s clean, buzzy, and great for knocking out some tasks or jumping into a creative flow.

This high doesn’t smack you with intensity—it builds smoothly, letting you ride the wave with full awareness.

As the session progresses, the energy gently eases off into a mellow, full-body comfort. It never becomes sedating, but instead delivers a lovely body hum that makes flopping on the couch feel like a reward rather than a necessity.

That balance between mental clarity and physical ease makes High Society a top-tier choice for afternoons that fade into evenings.

How Much Does It Cost?

As a premium brand, BLK MKT retails around $87 for 7 grams.

While it may be on the pricier side, the quality, effects, and full-bodied terpene profile make it well worth the spend. You’re not just buying weed—you’re investing in a curated cannabis experience.

Summary

High Society is the epitome of a high-functioning hybrid. With a well-balanced profile that blends energetic uplift and relaxing come-down, it’s perfect for anyone looking to get things done without feeling wound up—and to chill without losing touch.

Add in the eye-catching visuals, boutique aroma, and long-lasting effects, and you’ve got yourself a strain worthy of its upscale name.

Whether you’re going from boardroom to beach day or just want a well-rounded smoke to vibe through the day, High Society brings the goods—tastefully.

CBD vs. THC for Pain Management: Which One is Right for You?

February 18, 2025 by Taylor Willson

In recent years, the conversation around pain management has shifted dramatically, with many turning to cannabis derivatives like CBD and THC for relief. But how do these two compounds compare when it comes to alleviating pain? Let’s dive deep into the nuances of CBD and THC, and help you decide which might be the better option for your needs.

Understanding CBD and THC

CBD (Cannabidiol):

    • Non-psychoactive: CBD does not produce the ‘high’ associated with cannabis use.
    • Pain Relief: It interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, potentially reducing chronic pain by affecting receptor activity, reducing inflammation, and interacting with neurotransmitters. Research suggests CBD might be particularly effective for conditions where inflammation plays a key role.
    • Best For: Conditions like arthritis, muscle pain, and inflammatory diseases. CBD is noted for its anti-inflammatory properties, which might help with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol):

    • Psychoactive: THC is the compound responsible for the high, which can also alter perception, mood, and consciousness.
    • Pain Relief: THC binds directly with CB1 receptors in the brain and nervous system, providing potent pain relief, especially for acute pain or conditions like cancer pain where strong analgesia is needed. Studies have shown efficacy in managing cancer-related pain.
    • Best For: Neuropathic pain, severe chronic pain, and conditions where a psychoactive effect might be beneficial or not a concern.

Which Conditions Respond Best to Each?

    • CBD is often chosen for:
        • Chronic Pain: Especially where inflammation is a key component. Research supports CBD’s role in managing chronic non-cancer pain.
        • Arthritis: Both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis benefit from CBD’s anti-inflammatory effects.
        • Fibromyalgia: For managing widespread pain and associated symptoms like fatigue, with studies providing insights into cannabinoid use in similar conditions.
    • THC might be more effective for:
        • Cancer Pain: Due to its strong analgesic effects, as evidenced by research.
        • Neuropathy: THC can tackle nerve pain which might not respond well to traditional painkillers, supported by research on multiple sclerosis-related pain.
        • Breakthrough Pain: When pain spikes suddenly, THC can provide quick relief.

Top CBD and THC Products for Pain

    • CBD Products:
        • CBD Oil/Tinctures: For precise dosing and quick absorption.
        • Topicals: Creams and balms for localized pain relief, ideal for arthritis or muscle pain.
        • Capsules: For those preferring a consistent dose without the taste of oil.
    • THC Products:
        • Edibles: Long-lasting relief, though onset can be delayed.
        • Tinctures: For those who need control over dosage and faster onset compared to edibles.
        • Vaporizers: For quick pain relief without smoking; useful for acute pain episodes.

Conclusion

Choosing between CBD and THC for pain management isn’t a one-size-fits-all decision. It depends on your condition, tolerance for psychoactive effects, legal status in your area, and personal health goals. Both compounds offer unique benefits, and in some cases, combining them might yield the best results.

By understanding the differences and applications of CBD and THC, you’re better equipped to make an informed choice for your pain management needs. Remember, always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new treatment regimen.

CBD for Stress & Anxiety: How It Works & Best Products

February 11, 2025 by Taylor Willson

In today’s fast-paced world, stress and anxiety have become part of everyday life. Many people are turning to CBD (cannabidiol) as a natural way to promote relaxation without the psychoactive effects of THC. But how does CBD actually work to relieve stress and anxiety? And what are the best products to try? Let’s dive in.

How CBD Interacts with Stress & Anxiety

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS)—a complex network of receptors in the body that helps regulate mood, stress response, and overall well-being. Studies suggest that CBD may influence serotonin receptors, which play a crucial role in anxiety and mood regulation.

What Science Says About CBD for Anxiety

Several studies have explored the effects of CBD on stress and anxiety:

  • A 2015 Study suggested that CBD could support individuals dealing with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), PTSD, and other stress-related conditions.
  • A 2019 study found that CBD may hold benefit for anxiety-related disorders.

Want to learn more about how CBD works? Check out The Ultimate CBD Beginner’s Guide.

Best CBD Products for Anxiety Relief

Not all CBD products are created equal. Here are some of the best options based on customer feedback and effectiveness:

CBD Oils & Tinctures

  • Why? Fast-acting and easy to dose.
  • How to Use: Place a few drops under your tongue and hold for 30-60 seconds before swallowing.
  • Popular Choices:
    • Full-spectrum CBD oil (contains small amounts of THC for the entourage effect).
    • Broad-spectrum CBD oil (THC-free but includes other cannabinoids for enhanced benefits).

CBD Gummies

  • Why? Tasty, convenient, and discreet.
  • How to Use: Take one gummy and wait for effects (which can take 30-60 minutes).
  • Best For: Daily stress relief and long-lasting effects.

CBD Capsules & Softgels

  • Why? Precise dosing and no taste.
  • How to Use: Swallow with water like a regular supplement.
  • Best For: Those who prefer a hassle-free, consistent CBD routine.

CBD vs. THC for Stress & Anxiety

Some people find that CBD alone works well, while others prefer a balanced CBD:THC ratio for enhanced relaxation.

The Ultimate CBD Beginner’s Guide

February 10, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Cannabidiol (CBD) has taken the wellness world by storm, with countless people turning to it for relief from stress, pain, sleep troubles, and more. But with so many products, terms, and claims floating around, it can be overwhelming for beginners. This guide will break down what CBD is, how it works, the different types available, how to choose the right product, dosage basics, and the safety and legal considerations in Canada.

What Is CBD & How Does It Work?

CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce a psychoactive high. Instead, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps regulate functions like mood, pain perception, sleep, and immune response.

The ECS consists of receptors (CB1 and CB2), enzymes, and endocannabinoids that maintain homeostasis in the body. CBD primarily interacts with CB2 receptors, influencing pain, inflammation, and immune function. Some research suggests CBD may also enhance the body’s own endocannabinoid production, contributing to overall balance and well-being.

For a deeper dive into CBD’s benefits, interactions, and tips on choosing the right product, check out CBD Explained: Benefits, Interactions, and Choosing the Right Product.

The Difference Between Full-Spectrum, Broad-Spectrum, and Isolate CBD

When shopping for CBD, you’ll come across three main types:

  • Full-Spectrum CBD: Contains all cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial compounds found in the cannabis plant, including trace amounts of THC (under 0.3%). These compounds work together in what’s known as the “entourage effect,” enhancing the potential benefits.
  • Broad-Spectrum CBD: Similar to full-spectrum but with the THC removed. It still contains other cannabinoids and terpenes, offering some entourage effect benefits.
  • CBD Isolate: Pure CBD with no other cannabinoids or terpenes. While it lacks the entourage effect, it is ideal for those who want to avoid THC entirely.

To explore the benefits of minor cannabinoids like CBG, CBC, and CBN, visit Exploring the Benefits of Minor Cannabinoids: CBG, CBC, and CBN.

How to Choose the Right CBD Product

CBD comes in various forms, each with unique benefits depending on your needs and lifestyle. Here’s a breakdown:

1. CBD Oils & Tinctures

CBD oils and tinctures are taken sublingually (under the tongue) for quick absorption. They are highly versatile and allow precise dosing. Ideal for those looking for general wellness benefits, anxiety relief, or sleep support.

2. CBD Edibles

CBD-infused gummies, chocolates, and beverages provide a tasty and discreet way to consume CBD. They take longer to kick in (30-90 minutes) since they must be digested but offer long-lasting effects.

3. CBD Topicals

CBD creams, balms, and lotions are applied directly to the skin to target localized pain, inflammation, or skin conditions. These are great for muscle recovery, joint pain, and skincare benefits.

4. CBD Vapes

CBD vape pens offer the fastest absorption, making them ideal for instant relief from anxiety or pain. However, vaping comes with potential health risks, so it’s important to choose high-quality, additive-free products.

CBD Product Potencies

CBD products come in various strengths and concentrations, which are typically measured in milligrams (mg) per container or per serving. When choosing a product, check the label for potency information, such as:

  • CBD Oils & Tinctures: Often available in 300mg, 600mg, 1000mg, or higher per bottle.
  • CBD Capsules: Usually come in servings of 5-10mg per piece.
  • CBD Edibles: Usually come in servings of 5-10mg per piece.
  • CBD Beverages: Usually come in servings of 5-10mg per Drink
  • CBD Topicals: Measured in total mg per container, often ranging from 250mg to 1000mg.
  • CBD Vapes: Potencies vary per cartridge, typically between 200mg to 500mg.

It’s important to start with lower potency options and gradually increase as needed while monitoring effects.

Safety & Legal Considerations in Canada

CBD is legal in Canada under the Cannabis Act, but there are some regulations to be aware of:

  • Purchasing: CBD products must be bought from licensed cannabis retailers.
  • Possession Limits: Adults can possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent in CBD products.
  • Labeling & Testing: Products must be accurately labeled and undergo strict testing to ensure safety and potency.
  • Driving & Workplace Use: While CBD does not cause impairment, some workplaces may have policies regarding cannabis use.

When buying CBD, always choose products from reputable brands with third-party lab testing to ensure quality and safety.

Final Thoughts

CBD offers a natural way to support overall wellness, but understanding its different forms, potencies, and legal considerations is essential. Whether you’re looking to relieve stress, improve sleep, or manage pain, choosing the right CBD product tailored to your needs can make all the difference.

Cannabis and Sleep

February 3, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Navigating the Night

How Cannabis Influences Sleep

Introduction

Sleep isn’t just a nightly necessity; it’s a cornerstone of good health. But for many, a restful night’s sleep is a rare luxury. Increasingly, people are turning to cannabis, intrigued by its potential to improve sleep quality. In this detailed guide, we’ll uncover how components like THC, CBD, and CBN might help you catch those elusive Zs more consistently. Whether you’re a seasoned cannabis enthusiast or new to its uses, understanding its role in sleep could transform your nighttime routine.

Understanding Sleep and Its Importance

Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly. This can impair your abilities to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories.

Most adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Children and teenagers need even more sleep, especially if they are younger than five years old. Sleep is divided into several cycles, each consisting of different stages:

  • Stage 1: Light sleep where you drift in and out of sleep and can be awakened easily.
  • Stage 2: The onset of sleep becoming more consistent as body temperature drops and heart rates slow.
  • Stage 3: Deep, restorative sleep where the body repairs muscle and tissue and stimulates growth and development.
  • REM Sleep: The brain is active, and dreams occur. This stage is essential for emotional regulation and memory.

The Science of Cannabis and Sleep

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a significant role in maintaining body balance (homeostasis) and functions, including sleep. Cannabis contains compounds like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol), and CBN (Cannabinol) which interact with the ECS in ways that can significantly affect sleep patterns.

  • THC is known for its psychoactive effects but also has sedative properties. It can decrease the time it takes to fall asleep and may increase the duration of deep sleep. However, high doses of THC might reduce the amount of REM sleep, which is important for emotional and cognitive health. For more on THC’s effects on sleep, see this study: Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine Study
  • CBD is non-psychoactive and is often touted for its therapeutic benefits, including its potential to enhance sleep. CBD may help reduce anxiety and pain, which can contribute to insomnia. Higher doses of CBD are linked to more significant sleep aid effects, helping individuals fall asleep faster and wake less during the night. A study discussing the effects of CBD and other cannabinoids on sleep can be found here: Sleep Journal Article
  • CBN emerges as THC degrades over time. Though less psychoactive than THC, CBN is recognized for its potential to aid in sleep. Preliminary research suggests that CBN might extend sleep duration and act as a mild sedative. This could make it particularly useful for those who need a little extra help winding down at night. For a study on CBN’s effectiveness in reducing nighttime awakenings, see: PubMed Study

Personalizing Cannabis Use for Better Sleep

Choosing the right cannabis product for sleep involves understanding the effects of different strains and cannabinoid profiles:

  • Indica strains are often preferred for sleep due to their relaxing and sedative effects.
  • Balanced THC/CBD strains might offer a good mix of pain relief and relaxation without overly intense psychoactive effects.
  • Dosing is crucial. Start with a low dose, especially if new to cannabis use, and gradually adjust based on the effects. Consuming cannabis 1-2 hours before bedtime can optimize its sleep-inducing effects.

It’s also important to consider how often you use cannabis, as frequent use can lead to tolerance and decreased effectiveness over time.

Conclusion

Understanding the intricate relationship between cannabis and sleep is essential for anyone looking to improve their sleep quality with cannabis. By choosing the right strains, adjusting dosages appropriately, and focusing on the interaction of cannabinoids like THC, CBD, and CBN, cannabis can be a valuable addition to your nighttime routine. Trusting Your Cannabis Source

January 24, 2025 by Taylor Willson

Why Trusting Your Cannabis Source Matters

Buying cannabis from a licensed source ensures you know exactly what you’re getting and where it comes from. Here’s why that matters.

The Value of a Trusted Source

Like alcohol, cannabis carries certain risks, but responsible consumption can help minimize them. Knowing why you’re using cannabis, starting with a low dose, and purchasing from a reliable source are all key steps in reducing potential harm.

Legal cannabis in Canada is strictly regulated, which works in favor of consumers. These regulations ensure that cannabis products are consistently produced, tested, and labeled accurately, giving you confidence in what you’re consuming.

Let’s explore what buying from a legal source guarantees and how it supports responsible use.

Prioritizing Safety

Unregulated cannabis can be risky. A 2022 study by the Ontario Provincial Police and the OCS found that nearly all illegal cannabis samples tested contained unauthorized pesticides, often in dangerously high concentrations. Without regulation, there are no consequences for producers who sell contaminated products, and no way for consumers to be notified if a product recall is needed.

Licensed cannabis producers in Canada must comply with strict Health Canada regulations, including restrictions on pesticides, maintaining sanitary production environments, and providing detailed, accurate labeling.

Cannabis products must also meet specific legal requirements. For example, edible cannabis products can only contain approved food ingredients, and vape products cannot include nicotine, caffeine, or unauthorized additives like vitamin E acetate. Health Canada enforces compliance by conducting facility inspections and testing cannabis samples.

Before any legal cannabis product reaches consumers, it undergoes extensive testing at federally approved labs to screen for harmful substances such as pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, and mold.

Quality Control Measures

Once testing is complete, products receive a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and a Statement of Attestation (SOA), confirming their compliance with safety standards. If any issues are detected, products can be recalled, and producers can face penalties to protect consumers.

The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) further verifies each product’s documentation and checks for damaged items before distribution. If a product is later recalled, the OCS has systems in place to notify consumers.

Accurate THC and CBD Levels

Cannabis affects everyone differently based on factors such as age, sex, experience, and health. Knowing the exact THC and CBD content in a product helps consumers make informed choices and avoid overconsumption.

Legal cannabis products undergo strict potency testing to verify THC and CBD levels. These results are used to label products accurately, and the OCS quality assurance team ensures the information on the packaging matches the actual product contents.

Some products, such as edibles, must meet precise dosage requirements, ensuring each serving contains a consistent amount of THC and CBD. This is crucial for preventing accidental overconsumption.

Transparency in Product Origins

Just like with food, knowing the origin of your cannabis helps you make informed choices. Legal cannabis products have a fully traceable supply chain.

Labels on regulated cannabis products include essential details like the packaging date, weight, lot number (which links to a specific harvest), and producer contact information. Some producers also share additional information, such as terpene profiles and whether the flower was grown indoors or outdoors.

The Reality of CBD Products

CBD is often perceived as harmless because it does not cause intoxication, but it is still a controlled substance in Canada and is subject to the same regulations as THC products.

Legal CBD products require federal licensing and must undergo the same rigorous testing as THC products. Unregulated CBD products may contain inaccurate CBD levels or undisclosed additives.

Purchasing CBD from an authorized source ensures the product contains the stated amount of CBD and meets safety standards.

The Bottom Line

Knowing where and how your cannabis is produced is a crucial part of responsible consumption. Choosing regulated cannabis products reduces risks and provides confidence in their safety and quality.
